Arethusa beautiful young female huntress and follower of Artemis, She loved running and hunting in the forest. She was a nereid.Alpheus was a minor god of stream, fell in love with Arethusa.
Story;
One day, after hunting, Arethusa decided to bath in Alpheus's stream, but suddenly she felt that somebody touched him. Frightened, She ran into the forest, She was pursued by one stranger, somebody followed him. When she tried, She begged Artemis to help him. Artemis turned her into a spring of water. Her stream traveled under the sea to the island of Ortygia, but Alpheus flowed through the sea to reach her and mingle with her waters, so she was not free from Alpheus.
